Varsity Match 2008

In the match between Oxford and Cambridge, played at St Paul's on Saturday 16th February, no fewer than seven Old Paulines were involved in the two teams of eight.  The record (ours) was eight, established in 2005. Congratulations to Alan Beverly, Alqahir Ladak, Paul Simister (Cambridge) and to Jack Furniss, Dan Tristao, Ali Jennings and Ed Emmett (Oxford). Anand Ashok also represented Cambridge 'Sparrows' against the Oxford 'Beavers', whose number included Henry Waite.

Oxford won the match by 67points, having been 1 point down after the singles: Alan Beverly, who lost to Dan Tristao in the BUSA final but won the Under 25s clinched the "decider" in style, winning 15-3. Jack Furniss lost narrowly to the Cambridge captain, but Ali Jennings won comprehensively at number 3, while Alqahir narrowly lost the fourth singles. In the afternoon's doubles, Alan and captain Richard Lebon (ex Christ's Hospital) beat the Oxford first pair (and BUSA winners) 15-9, 12-15, but the bulk of the games played lower down were dominated by Oxford
