Marking Reviews

    The original marking of papers can occasionally have errors.  For a fee (which is returned if the subject grade changes - charges will be posted nearer results day) the exam board will review the marking of a paper.  This is not a re-mark, marks will only be changed if they find

    • an administrative error;
    • a failure to apply the mark scheme where a task has only a ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ answer;
    • an unreasonable exercise of academic judgement.
    Marks (and possibly grades) can be increased or reduced as a result of a review.   If your paper is within a few marks of  a grade boundary (we can supply this information) a grade change for the paper is more likely and you may want to consider a review. Upon receipt of a review of marking result you may still feel that an error has been made- in this case you may wish to make a further appeal.

    Please note:- Although we will be able to provide initial guidance, private candidates must make their own applications for review directly with the exam boards.
