2 Week Block Minutes

Minutes 16/1/13

Update from Ashay:

  • New Building – ceremony on the 30th for its opening, and is open on the 28th for the U8th. Physics will move in after half-term, Chemistry and Biology after the Easter Remedy

This Week:

  • Teacher feedback – will not be compulsory, but we have support from staff members who do it already.
  • Shower locks – there are none. Need there be ? Privacy is important, and it wouldn’t take too much hassle – there are locks on the toilets. Apparently the water coming out is too cold at the beginning, but it is all being re-built fairly soon anyway.
  • Gym refurbishment, since there will be a new floor for the Sports hall.
  • Societies lunches – apparently recently they have not been as good as they are normally, but that depends entirely on the society and equally on the day.
  • Backing for podcasting / filming Society talks is there.
  • New humanities lecture will be called the “Milton” Lecture, paralleling the Halley lecture.
  • Re-sits of exams – apparently the re-takes this year were not taken as seriously as the summer ones this year, such as no notice by e-mail, not knowing where to go etc. It is however the first year of doing wide scale re-takes.
  • Hockey – goal keeper equipment required (pads, gloves, masks etc.)
  • Dance games half? – speak to Games Committee
  • Would it be possible to get the napkin dispenser back in the lunch hall? Maybe it just needs re-filling.
  • Would it be possible to have the score-board on the 1st XV pitch working for football matches as well? Might be nice.

25/1/13

  • Automatic door next to lunch hall going into the school keeps on jamming at random intervals – speak to Mr. Imrie
  • The AC Grayling talk at Isiah Berlin Soc was filmed successfully – this tool should be advertised more at assemblies, to society heads etc.
  • Could non-Rowers who have done it before have a day of doing it in the Summer term without being on the games half? Problem: chance of rustiness, supervision / staffing, health and safety.
  • Apparently there are problems with the toilet system’s plumming in terms of large deposits: Ollie Skan to investigate.
  • Things that need to be done in the near future by us: survey about new main block, lunch time SC-Live.
  • Oxbridge classes – people who have enjoyed them in the Oxbridge term might like extra lessons based outside the curriculum (some already do). Up to teachers, free time, energy etc. Also – could Oxbridge preparation start earlier, such as in the L8th? Problems: people undecided, Universities getting wind of it and not liking it. Solution: have as some subjects do, VOLUNTARY Reading Groups starting in the L8th / Summer term of that year.
