Student Council Minutes 15/09/03
Absent: Granger, Marmot, Gifford
New Members
The council welcomes the recently elected Lower 8ths: Mark Baines, Adrien Charbin, John Coccolatos, Marco Espin, Chris King, Jamie Macfarlane, Nick Philpot, Patrick Roux, Simon Scheuer and Nick Wood.
Detentions
It is the view of the council that the current detention system is ripe for review. The council wants to ascertain primarily whether detentions are suitable for the 8th form, and whether they act as a deterrent to students throughout the school.
John Colet Day
The council would be interested in the proposed set-up of the impending John Colet day, particularly with regard to theme and exemption policy. Adam O'Boyle will be contacting Rev. Allsop on the matter.
September 11th Remembrance
There was some feeling that the school should have had a minute silence in remembrance of the September 11th attacks.
Leaving School During Academic Day
Once again, many feel that students should not be forced to stay on campus when they have no commitments. There was a suggestion that the introduction of key fobs could make registration easier, thus allowing students to (hypothetically) leave school as and when they wish.
Smoking
There have been anonymous requests for an area for Paulines to smoke in. Deeply embarrassed, no council member felt they could comment in the presence of a teacher.
