Minutes 5/12/12
Recap:
· Printers – done.
· Misunderstood new buildings feedback from students – talking about main block, not science block. User groups consisting of people who use certain areas e.g. rugby players, rowers and people who live far away for the changing rooms. 2 architects have been shortlisted and will be selected by the end of term, after which consultation will be required. Masterplan didn’t lay specifics of intricacies of new main block out.
· Discussions about visit from WALF:
o Parallel talks in different terms for arts and creatives would be a good thing, and would mean less grumbling about the science one being compulsory.
o They should be compulsory
o Recording lectures – good idea, particularly convenient when in the Wathen Hall.
o Inviting schools from local area – good thing.
· Medical day for potential medics – this actually takes place in the summer term, not September. Should it be re-scheduled for earlier?
· The topic of tutorial details sheet (summary of term at end or goals at the beginning) will be re-visited, owing to lack of time.
Visit from Marco / Andre from 6th form forum:
· 4th form games half has been discussed – games committee meeting soon.
· Shooting Games Half – interesting option: there is a range in Richmond. Director of Sport is the person to see.
· Hand dryers – are they actually effective in preserving hygiene? Dyson Air blades would be much better.
· Clock in the changing room on the East side – has been wrong for a while now.
· 6th form cricket – would it be possible to have exclusive 6th form teams? History: it’s the way other schools do it, and due to study leave, it increases the chance of availability.
· Homework timetables – teachers sometimes not adhering to issued timetables, and sometimes give homework whenever. Balance is key.
General:
· Societies – to boost attendance on certain talks, could we have the prefects encouraging people to go to talks in the atrium at lunchtime? Also make use of the screen more, and possibly have certain lessons with some spicy details tailored to a society talk on that day? For 4th formers – if they really want to go to a talk, could they be allowed to miss Monday activities? Should only be a one-off thing.
· University day – could be moved to earlier on in the calender – in the L8th? Ops sometimes not available, so has to be during a time of year when they are.
