Student Council Minutes 06/10/03

Citizenship: After weeks of debate, clarifying its stance on citizenship, the Council will file a short report on it, which will be complete at the beginning of the next half of term. Marco Espin has volunteered to do this.

Fizzy Drinks at SPS: DJM and PJCB have asked to speak to the council concerning fizzy drinks. Schools in New York and California ban the sale of fizzy drinks (Scotland is following too) on the grounds that they:-

·          promote tooth decay

·          promote obesity

·          can lead to type 2 diabetes

·          can increase hyperactivity

·          lead to litter proliferation

Although somewhat sceptical, the council has decided to hear them out after half term.

Food: There have been numerous complaints about the state of catering at SPS. Tuck Shop prices are generally described as 'extortionately high'. As well as this, Paulines would like contents of vending machines to be altered. To address these issues, as well as many others, Charlie Fink and Patrick Roux have been put onto the catering committee.

Astroturf: The Council believes that the school should build an Astroturf pitch. This issue will be raised with Mr Jaine.
