Steering on the Tideway

Steering advice

  • In addition to learning and understanding Tideway navigation, make sure you always turn around to see what is approaching you, or what you are approaching, is critical.
  • Simply being confident that you are in the correct position on the river is not enough, as other river uses/debris may be where you would ideally navigate.
  • Take extra care at cross over points as crews, especially eights, travel very fast with the stream and can easily catch you out.
  • Help each other on the river by alerting each other and other river uses of hazards or danger that they may have not noticed.
  • ALWAYS REMAIN IN EYESIGHT OF YOUR COACH
