Minutes 25/1/12

Absent: Ben (still debating), Dion, Robin

Recap. on last week:

  • broken water fountain in sports hall and the photocopier situation in the Common Room - in the process of being resolved.
  • Detention debate - Ed spoke to Mr. Jaine, who is open to ideas. Will perhaps come into discussion soon.

This Week:

  • The act of Paulines writing a good and solid C.V. came up this week, in that we don't have scheduled lessons for writing them. If L8ths were to have lessons during a Private Study or something like that - having left the school, pupils will be confident about writing C.V.s. Perhaps as well as the UCAS course at the end of the L8th there could be some sort of programme in which we could learn the art of C.V. writing. G. Speak to speak to Mr. Wood. This is considered important, and other schools have similar issues.
  • FOB system - apparently the door leading into the Geography Centre again is not open on weekends - Mr. Jaine will be spoken to, and this wil be brought up again.
  • The subject of the notices was brought up, and how it might be nice for some people to be informed of the notices if they don't hear them or see them on the various televisions around the school. It was generally agreed that there are enough ways of finding them out, and perhaps people are being lazy. In some classrooms, however, one can't hear the notices; this is why we have the screen in the atrium. It's such an extensive discussion. Ashay to see to IT Dept. re putting notices on front page of Intranet (image being possibly re-thought) and the situation of some people not having their reports put up on iSAMS.
  • The matter of the 8th Form progress reports came up, and how some thought that they aren't an accurate and useful account of students progress in academia. The main complaint was that they (apparently) aren't specific enough, although the teachers do have the Comment box to provide further information. It was unanimously agreed that it is far too complicated to have two reports a term, and the progress reports work well as a check that everything is going swimmingly - we have Parents' Evening to provide further information.
