Recap. on last week:
- Water Cooler in U8th Common Room - this has been acquired. Enjoy.
- Water fountains around the school - general problems with them need to be sorted out. The 6th Form Forum have been asked to conduct a survey. Action to follow.
- 2nd Hand Book Sale from 8th Formers -Mr. Wilson has spoken to various people, and it has been concluded that it should be done on a small scale to start off with, and in the summer term. We will need a list of textbooks required for certain subjects.
This Week:
- U8th to have lunch with the Head of the Board of Governors today (12/10/11).
- Vending machines around the school don't have enough change, most notably the dining hall, chocolate dispensing one, which doesn't take 20p pieces. The reason for this might be that the increased demand at the new location of the tuck shop means that they need as much change as they can get, and to rectify the problems with the vending machines, the catering staff must be spoken with.
- Peter Martin went to speak to the 6th Form Forum this week to ask what they thought of the current uniform with the High Master's questions in mind. They were generally happy with the dress-code, and as discussed last week, one of the advantages is that everyone will more or less the same on smart occasions. For the time being, therefore, the uniform shall stay the same.
- The 6th Form Forum also asked if it would be possible for a list of meals during the term to be published, and this idea was discussed. It would however mean more to do for the already busy catering staff, and would make to much of a fuss.
- General complaints about the quality of the pasta at the pasta bar arose, that it is too watery, or that there are conspicuous white lumps in the pasta. Andrew Janssens, head of Catering on the council, will look into these matters, as well as the vending machine situation.
- Rules about getting seconds at lunch were discussed, and the general rule is that one can return for yet more food at 2:00pm, and one is asked to consider that rugby players / rowers come in from training and are hungry. Realistically, however, many people go back for more before the clock strikes 2.
- An issue was raised about computers, and how it might be nice for them to be automatically connected to the printer in that room as the default setting, as having to print in the Computer Gallery from the Music School might be seen as tedious. This process however would be a complicated and laborious one for the IT department, but a solution to the problem might be to have a guide on how to find a particular printer in the school. Mr. Smith would need to be contacted for a school-wide e-mail giving a description on how to do this.
- Complaints about the incessant noise from the building works arose, but it is not in the Council's power to dictate when the works go on and when they don't.
