Recap. on last week:
- Problems with lunch after sports practice (rugby etc.) - a list of practice times during lunch break should be e-mailed to the catering staff. For this list, Mr. Girvan, Director of Sport, should be consulted.
- Alcoholic hand gel dispensers - in process of being fixed / re-filled.
- Boxing bags in the gym - Mashood spoke to Mr. Blurton, who said that the gym has enough money for them, but putting them in the core room would result in too much weight being put on the upstairs floor, which might in turn collapse.
- Booking the atrium for presentations / performances - all societies can now book the atrium for their own personal use. Primarily for societies. To book, speak to Mr. Peters.
- Pictures of sport on the television screen in the atrium - in the process of being initiated.
This week:
- Asian assembly - came up in meeting with High Master, we don't really know what goes on in their meetings. There is an on-going discussion.
- Water fountains - the fountain closest to the atrium is broken, as is the one near the fives courts, the one next to the sports hall vending machines, and the one in the sports hall loo. They need to be fixed; action to ensue.
- U8th Common Room - the presence of a water fountain in the common room was discussed - it could be streamed from the dining hall supply or perhaps even a water cooler in the room itself. An issue for the Common Room Comittee.
- Senior Tuck Shop (different one for Juniors and Seniors) - apparently there is nothing we can really do, one must make sacrifices in these hard times of heavy construction. The tuck shop is in fact working slightly better.
- Book return system - a system whereby Seniors who no longer need textbooks from GCSE sell them at some sort of second hand sale for Juniors was discussed. Could do it informally, although the second hand sale proved a very good idea, put forward by Mashood. Perhaps the Parents Group could be involved, in which case this will be left to Mr. Wilson.
- Boxing / kick boxing as a games half was discussed, but given the high risk of injury, and the fact that we don't really want to promote boxing, it probably isn't the best thing to run with, particularly since it has been banned before.
- Water fountains with the curly pipe should be fixed. It was put forward that there should be some sort of container with plasstic cups, however this would not be considered environmentally friendly, and it is always recommended that one brings a bottle.
- The High Master would like to know the opinions about the Junior School Uniform, whether we like it, whether it is necessary, and whether it needs changing. It was generally agreed that the Junior uniform is convenient and quite good in terms of everyone looking the same, and that there is no Junior boy standing out from the crowd or feeling insecure about their dress because they are all wearing the same thing. It also marks the difference between the Lower and Upper School boys, Seniors being more mature. Without the uniform, it was agreed that too many people would begin to take liberties and push boundaries as to their clothes. This is school, not a fashion show, and this level of formality should be maintained, particularly in the classroom. We do, however, need the opinion of the lower years. It is undoubtedly a massive issue.
