Minutes 14/11/12

Recap from Ashay:

·      Library – still looking into situation in terms of people there – it has been very full recently.

·      Music Lockers – when boys now sign up for them, they will be issued with a standard, correct lock.

·      Music School bridge door – when events and concerts are on, the doors will be kept only single locked (for FOBS)

·      Tuck Shop – on going discussion

This Week:

·      Re point about Community projects brought up at Governors meeting, and how there might not be enough. Ben Fraser has a contact with a fairly local 6th form college, so we could start thinking about that.

·      Idea of reviewing teachers – not to have an online system that can be done whenever and anonymously. Could there be a system like some teachers use now (e.g. Mr Isaacs) where it is constructive comments about a subject’s teaching every term / year? One would need to take it seriously, and also in setting it up see it from the staff’s perspective. There are benefits from both sides, so positive reinforcement is necessary. Speak to Mr du Toit, the original initiator of such a system of a closed system. Perhaps there could be a gradation in how much one can say – for juniors, there could be a numerical rating system and a box for optional comments, and then once Senior status is reached, there could be more room for more elaborate / detailed comment. Necessity: keep teacher – pupil relationship in mind.

·      Chapel – something that came up with the Chair of Governors. It was generally agreed that having a chapel would be a good thing, given St. Paul’s history. Talks with the main architect are ongoing – could there be a “multi-faith room” or is that making things too complicated?
