Minutes 7/11/12

General:

·      Range in tuck shop – has increased over the past couple of days.

Recap from meeting with HM and SM:

·      FOB Review – go ahead has been given, all that is needed now is to conduct the survey. Music School – perhaps a bell could be put on the top floor to use if FOB has been forgotten and one is stuck on the bridge when at a concert, for example. Workshop – not really that necessary to have a FOB door: it doesn’t take that much time to use the alternative, and if boys use the door when wearing boots, it will just create mess when there needn’t be.

·      Vending machines – new ones for the dining hall are on their way

·      Clock on bigside – will be bought fairly soon, don’t want to spend too much as the building will be knocked down fairly soon in the future anyway.

·      Water fountain in the English Dept. – nothing can be promised – another fountain may provide cost problems and further traffic of boys rushing to lessons.

·      Music lockers – JK / Orlando still to follow up, but Mr. Girvan will talk to the school shop, as well as the music dept. to find out whether boys can be told when they start what locks are appropriate for the music lockers.

·      Signs for temporary Common Room – not really necessary, should be more informal than that.

·      Jumpers and logos for juniors – not too big of an issue, and as long as it’s discreet, it should be fine.

·      More lights in the visitors car park  - problems are that there aren’t many accidents anyway and there might be problems with planning permission / nearby residents.

This week:

  • New block for U8th Common Room – the U8ths will be taken on a tour of the upstairs / downstairs of the new block which will contain the new common room, and this will happen before the end of this term. Questions of the layout of the CR need to be confirmed, as do the contents. We will be allowed in by the 16th January.
  • Match tea last weekend against Malborough – apparently the time taken to produce the meals and the portions served while the Malborough players were still here was unacceptable.
  • Bell on the first floor of the Music School –apparently this would be somewhat useless as the office staff are helping out backstage in concerts anyway, but might be useful for other times.
  • Recording society talks – can be done with a Eurosoc talk soon – Hopkins Powell to follow up. Could it be done with the Halley Lecture? Talk to IT Dept. Also re Halley lecture – could it be opened to scientifically keen 6th formers who wish to attend.
