Recap from Ashay:
· Computer Rooms – still looking into these. In particular, Geography Comp. room – problems of disturbing behaviour. Could there be low level monitoring. Suggestion from council – if a prefect is present, have him make sure that there is no illicit behaviour. It would not be a duty, however.
· Printers – problems with these are being experienced, but not reported. There could therefore be posters next to them instructing what to do in that situation.
· Surveying boys’ views on the new buildings – do this by means of user groups (scientists). Smaller Committee within the council to find out what’s what through a questionnaire.
Visit from WALF:
· Provision of talks – is there not much provision? Is the approach the right one, and should they continue (e.g. Halley Lecture)? Should there be parallel high profile lectures for the arts and creative subjects? Should they be for the 8th form only, and take place during class time or lunch time, which would disrupt games / societies? Is there a combative attitude with the compulsory nature to them? Or is it nice for those doing a range of subjects (or a narrow spectrum, indeed) for science to be mixed in with the arts and vice versa?
· Priority for the 8th form, but 6th form scientists (for the Halley Lecture) should be invited as well? The lecture should not be used as a way of disrupting teaching.
· Use the TED model – like Club Drama (teachers signing sets up in the Staff Room)? There is the potential for problems with interest (too much and too little).
· Invite schools from the local area?
· Recording the lectures would be great, for those ill / unable to attend, then putting the film on the Intranet.
· Societies – bad attendance? Is Monday the best day? Could we boost attendance at big talks during afternoon tutors on a Friday, and therefore make attending some talks a necessity? Monday is a bad day for some – music, gym etc. Should it be made compulsory for a boy to go to at least one talk a term.
· Tutorial details sheet issued at the end of term – should it be a set of aspirations at the start of the term instead?
