Minutes 7/3/12

Absent: Archie, JK

This Week:

  • The computers system was discussed, and apparently increasing the RAM on the computers does not make a difference to the log on time. Part of the problem is the Group Printers Policy, in that the nearest printer to the computer is the default. This increases the log on time by approx. 1.5 mins, and the IT Dept. have said that they will try to sort it out by Easter, snd if that iisn not possible, the Policy will be scrapped.
  • We learned that every computer is replaced every 4 years, and this October the computers in the Economics Room, the Physics Gallery, the Geography Gallery and the Computer Gallery, as a new budget will have been installed. The log ons taking too long is something to do with the hardware, not the software (apparently)
  • Back-dated notices - can easily be done, although on a different page f the Intranet.
  • The quality of the key-boards was discussed, in that they are apparently unsatisfactory in some rooms. Ashay to take further action.
  • The Common Room was discussed, as was the possibility of encorporating the L8th, but that would mean less integration with the lower years.
  • Library opening times - these were discussed, and it was generally agreed that they work very well as there is not enough consitent demand for after school work.
  • Bags in the library - the system was brought up, and their validity as a fire hazard. the reasoning behind it is that it could be considered a violation of health and safety, although the Chairman still to ask for a specific reason.
  • The Student Council system in general was discussed, and Peter proposed some new ideas for electing juniors - the 4th and 5th form would have random lots, and the 6th form would be elected in a similar manner to the L8th. The prospect of a junior Council may be unwise, as they do not have as much experience around the school and may not discuss matters quickly enough.

Summary for 'This Week':

  • Back-dated notices (i.e. notices from the past week) to be regularly put up on the Dashboard soon.
  • New computers to be put in place in the Economics Room, the Physics Gallery, the Geography Gallery and the Computer Gallery from October 2012.
  • Log on speed will be increased by the beginning of the Summer term, either by fixing the Group printer policy or getting rid of it altogether.
